Fellowship

The Tripod provides space, funding, and community for select artists through its fellowship program. Two artists are selected to work in parallel, one local to Portland and one visiting resident artist. The goal of the fellowship program is to give artists an opportunity to build community, develop the use of new processes, and explore ideas they previously haven’t had the time, funding, or space for. There is no expectation that a fellowship results in a body of work but a public event is held at the conclusion to engage Portland’s creative community.

Local artist fellowship

The Tripod is enhancing Portland art in a unique way to our geography and cultural environment. A familiarity with this environment will provide the collaboration between local and visiting artists with perspective on the space in which both are working.

The selected local artist will have access to rapid prototyping, wood and metal tools, a creative studio space, and an international artist network for regular critiques.

Artists selected for the local program receive a $2,000 stipend. This can be used for any part of their artistic practice. Artists applying for the local artist fellowship should live in the Portland Metropolitan Area.

Resident fellowship

The selected resident artist will stay on-site at The Tripod. They will have a shared studio space that includes rapid prototyping, wood and metal tools, and emerging interactive technology. They will be supported by regular communication with local and international artists for collaboration and critique of their work.

Artists selected for the resident program receive a $3,500 stipend. This can be used to assist with travel costs and for any part of their artistic practice. Artists applying for the resident artist fellowship must live outside the Portland Metropolitan Area.
